I've completely fallen in love with a car I haven't seen in months, that is quite possibly unfixably beat-up, that I might buy for $500. 5spd manual, base model, not sure if the airbags popped or not, pretty certain there's no title, but god dammit it's a manual and it's $500.

$500 is probably pretty close to scrap value alone.

no title = no sale.

Cars that size in my area are running $150-200 at best for crushweight.
If the transmission is the important thing, and it has a good transmission, do some research. See what you need to do a proper transmission swap. Buy this car as a donor, yank the trans, harness, computer, and whatever else you might need for a 5spd swap, and then part out the rest and scrap what you can't sell. Then haunt craigslist for a compatible model being sold because it needs a transmission. It takes longer, but you'll realize a better ride in the long run.

Not worth going through the BS of fighting for a title. No title = no sale

More like $250-300, at least where I live.

I guess that's the variable. Two guys i know just scrapped out bare f-body hulks and got $400 near me.

I fell for the trap myself. I'd say yes, but you'll have a nightmare registering it.

Around here it's $10-12 per hundred pounds, and being that a Civic stripped of everything that can't be scrapped might possibly weigh less than a ton... It may be more though.

I wish my Civic was a manual. Although I feel like woulda never gave it up lol

I really need to find a time to go up there and poke around it a bit. See if there's a title in the glovebox or something, see if it can be tracked down...

If it doesn't have a title, offer 300$ and strip it for parts.
the engine alone is worth more than that, and those glasses and bodywork makes it a nice candidate for a full stripdown.

Turns out titling a car without a title is pretty easy in kansas. Three forms, proof of insurance, proof of sale, and a drivers license. That's actually how we got my sister's Silverado.

My sister's truck didn't have a title. Kansas makes it pretty easy to get one.

I live in Kansas. Titles are super-easy to get here compared to other states.

Oooh that changes everything.
you said it's a base model, so D15 engine? or does it VTEC (yo?)
nice little car, but you'll miss the comfort of the Sofa.

in NH it depends on the age of the car - over 15 years, no title. Bill of sale only. Probably ought to change that law, since 15 isn't that old for a car anymore... but anyway less bureaucracy, yay!
